남방참고래는 적도 아래의 바다에 서식하는 오른쪽 고래의 아종으로, 적도에 가까운 따뜻한 물에서 겨울을 보내고 먼 남쪽에서 먹이를 먹는 여름을 보냅니다. 남반구의 9 월 말은 따뜻한 날씨와 여름이 가까워 졌음을 의미합니다. 아르헨티나 해안에서 이와 같은 남부 오른쪽 고래의 경우, 이것은 남극 대륙과 풍부한 먹이 부지를 향해 남쪽으로 이동하는 것을 의미합니다. 그들은 물 표면에서 크릴을 먹으며 작은 갑각류의 떼를 헤엄 칠 때 입을 벌리고 있습니다.

Southern right whales are a subspecies of right whale that inhabit the oceans below the equator, spending winters in warmer waters closer to the equator and summers feeding in the far south. The end of September in the Southern Hemisphere means warmer weather and the nearing of summer. For southern right whales like this one off the coast of Argentina, this means a transit southward toward Antarctica and rich feeding grounds. They feed on krill at the surface of the water, holding their mouths open as they swim through swarms of the tiny crustaceans.

Right whales are easily identifiable by the thick white calluses on their heads. They tend to be social and curious creatures and have been known to have close encounters with humans. The whale featured today surfaced off the Valdes Peninsula, home to the largest breeding population in the world, and a fitting location for the Southern Whale Natural Monument, created in 1984. In these protected waters, thousands of whales will mate and give birth, staying until October or November, when they will begin their great migration south.
