푸른 호랑이 나비

푸른 호랑이라고도 불리는 티루말라 림니아스는 붓발 나비 가족의 Danainae 그룹에 속하는 75 ~ 100 밀리미터의 날개 길이를 가진 큰 나비입니다. 그들은 갈색을 띤 검은 색이며 푸른 흰색, 반투명 반점과 프테로 빌린이라는 안료로 구성된 선으로 무늬가 있습니다. 아마도 놀랍게도, 수컷은 암컷보다 작으며 암컷을 끌어들이는 향기를 퍼뜨리는 데 사용되는 뒷다리 날개 근처의 작은 주머니로 식별 할 수 있습니다.

오늘날 우리 홈페이지에서 볼 수 있듯이 수천 마리의 푸른 호랑이 나비가 나무에 몰려 들고 있습니다. 이것은 나비가 약간 휴면 상태일 때 서늘한 온도에서 포식자 방지 전략으로 간주됩니다. 그들은 주로 독성 식물을 먹고 천천히 날아 다니며 겨울 동안 보호 된 지역에서 오랜 기간 휴식을 취합니다. 이 나비들은 남아시아와 동남아시아에 고르게 분포되어 있지만, 2019 년에는 발레 아레스 제도에서 단일 성인 표본이보고되어 유럽에서도 종의 첫 번째 기록이되었습니다.

Blue tiger butterflies

Tirumala limniace, also called the blue tiger, is a large butterfly with a wingspan of 75 to 100 millimetres belonging to the Danainae group of the brush-footed butterfly family. They are brownish-black in colour and patterned with bluish-white, semi-transparent spots and lines which consists of the pigment called pterobilin.  Perhaps surprisingly, the males are smaller than the females and can be identified by a small pouch near the hind wing which is used to spread a scent that attracts the females.

Today, as seen on our homepage, there are thousands of blue tiger butterflies flocking on a tree. This is considered an anti-predator strategy in cool temperatures when the butterflies are slightly dormant. They feed mostly on toxic plants, fly slowly and spend long periods resting in sheltered areas during the winter.  Though these butterflies are evenly distributed in South and Southeast Asia, in 2019 a single adult specimen was reported in the Balearic Islands, marking it the first record of the species in Europe too.
